Redirect for news/events

I don´t now if this is the right forum to ask this question but I couldn´t find a better place...

Is there a reason to why you set the redirect in the arhives and not in the modules?

For me this often creates problems when building larges sites which have multiple newsarhives and calenders.

Lets say I have several sections each with there own newsarchive and calendar with corresponding readers. In each section I also want to list the "genaral" news/event but i dont want to be redirected to the general reader when clicking on a genaral news item in the list. This would be a real hazzle to acomplish as it is. Or am I missing somthing?
