Contao need PHP and MySQL, so it does not matter which version of Windows
Having used both and installed PHP/Contao on them, if you can choose, I suggest you Windows Server 2008
I say this because it runs IIS7, which has two main improvements:
- PHP support is very easy to install on IIS7 (and, if I'm not wrong, native on Server edition), plus there's a free tool (PHP Manager) you can download and install from IIS7 support site, which is a manager for one or more different installations, very easy to use.
- you can download and install free "URL rewrite" module, which is the IIS version of "mod_rewrite"; it can import rules from .htaccess and create it's own web.config file, which makes Contao rewritten URLs working on IIS7, even with "folderurl" extension. ;)
