Catalog filter publish=1 problem

We are using a catalog List Module and a catalog filter to show a list of years. The list shows all years where we have a product in the catalog made in that year. Unfortunately when a product is unpublished and it's the only product in 2003 for example, 2003 is still showing up in our list. We've tried

and also tried

---

publish=1

---

in the condition field of the module but nothing is stopping irrelevant years coming up in our list. Any ideas anyone?

You have to use the name (table field name) of your published field here. Do you have created a published field type checkbox?

You also can register this field in the catalog for the 'eye' to toggle published status on/off.
