Passing parameter to catalog edit

Hi to everybody,
This question is very simple: while I navigate into the details of a "artist" kind of record I'd like to be able to insert a new artwork related to the artist.
I put a link-article in the same page as the artist details, linking to the "insert new artwork" article. The problem is that once I get to the page I have to choose again all the fields for the new artwork, including the artist name. Since I got there from the artist page I'd like to have the "artist" field already filled-in.
It would be right for me also to create a new "insert artwork" module without the artist name, so it's filled automatically by contao, but I don't know how to do that.

I'm pretty sure this is a simple issue, I'm just missing how to pass parameters from one catalog module to another.
