Responsive video (YouTube element)

Hi, I'm so surprised to find out that the YouTube element isn't responsive – or am I missing something?

Is there a tested and working solution for using the YouTube element that will so that

• the specified width and height will be the maximum size the video displays at
• the video will scale down if the available space is smaller than the specified size

(I must say that my PHP knowledge is non-existent)

Which Contao version are you on? In Contao 3.5 use the extension youtube_iframe. In Contao 4 this is build on. In the settings you can use e.g. 16 for width and 9 for height so that the video gets a fixed aspect ratio off 16/9 on all viewport dimensions. In the layout section there is a checkbox to include a small CSS file that handles the responsiveness (this CSS will be moved to other Contao CSS files in newer Contao versions).

Also take a look at https://github.com/friends-of-contao/contao-privacy if you want to build the youtube iframe not untill the user clicks on a preview image.

To clarify: the responsive stylesheet of the youtube_iframe extension is not built into Contao 4. You can still install the youtube_iframe extension in Contao 4 to get that functionality.

@Spooky: Ich dachte immer, dass deine youtube_iframe in Contao 4 aufgenommen wurde. Ist dem nicht so? Und dann gab es doch letztens ein Ticket, wo man den Haken aus dem Layout enfernen wollte und dein CSS aus youtube_iframe in die responsive.css von Contao 4 packen wollte. Jetzt bin ich total verunsichert und weiß gar nicht mehr, was denn Sache ist. Kannst du da kurz aufklären bitte?

Nur der Teil, womit man die verschiedenen Parameter auswählen kann.

Ja stimmt, das ist aber der PR von Nicky mit erweiterten Funktionen. Kommt wenn dann in 4.6 oder 4.7.
