    Default Turn on RSS?

    Hello all,

A webdesign company has installed Contao for us.

I asked them about rss and they said it would have to developed and that it would cost.

Frankly I can't believe that. Surely Contao supports rss by default?

I have access to the admin panel, how can I turn on rss, or do I need a plugin/extension for that?

    Thanks.

In the content menu click "News" then click the pencil next to the archive you wish to generate a field for.

    Click the pencil top right.

Once you are in the edit record page, you can click "RSS/Atom feed" to see the RSS options.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the help.

I activated the feed for one of my sections.

I entered the language code (en).

Now I am not sure what to put in the field "Base URL".

And where does the link to the feed appear later?

    Thanks

Try http://www.mydomain/ (obviously replacing mydomain with your own.

The feed will be in your route directory.

    Partisanentity,

If you enter the Base URL of "http://www.domain.com/" and a Feed alias of "news", then you can access the rss feed with this url: http://www.domain.com/news.xml. You could link to the feed in your site's content and you can also add it to page layouts. This will be an rss icon in the browser's address bar of your site visitors, just like it is for this forum.

To add feeds to layouts, follow these steps (assuming you are on 2.9+)
    1. Go to Themes > Edit page layouts
    2. Edit a layout
    3. Just below the Style sheets section is the RSS/Atom feeds section. Just pick the feeds you want associated with the layout.
    4. Save & close
    5. Do this for all other layouts

    Hi Ben,

Thank you so much for explaining this.

Just wondering, if I want to have a site-wide rss feed, how would I go about doing that?

    Thanks.

Hmm, linking the feed to the page layout doesn't seem to have done anything?

edit: ignore this, I simply added an html module at the bottom of the pages where i want to have an rss feed.

Did you tried it again? I have no problems downloading that file. Are you using a proxy server?

that previous link only works for versions 2.7-2.9?
    https://contao.org/en/extension-list...040059.en.html

wonder if something has been updated in v3.4 then because this plugin basically only works until the last 2.11 version?

We don't have to put language and version into an extension-list link. This way you always get the right language and latest version:
    https://contao.org/extension-list/vi...rizeFeeds.html

There's a 3.0.x branch on github which tells us this:
Attention This extension is deprecated. In Cintao 3.x.x. this function is on board.

ok, cool. but what is the difference between 3.2.16.lts and 3.4.0 on the download page? https://contao.org/en/download.html
which one should i get then and can i update from 2.x to 3.4.0 by just syncing the files via ftp?(and run the install tool)
i think there are not any extensions installed, so prolly dont have to restore those...

New version means new features but not so much compatible extensions. New features are listed in the changelogs https://contao.org/en/changelog.html. Release plan is here https://contao.org/en/release-plan.html

Theoretical yes. Test it in a mirror. From 2 to 3 was the most complex update as /tl_files/ now is /files/ and file resources now get managed via DB (DBAF). Search for an online tutorial, or try it with a live update ID. Remove all orphaned files. Run the check tool on your server https://contao.org/en/manual/3.3/ins...he-live-server . I for one would go up to 3.4.
