    Default BE Tabs

Is there a way to display multiple tabs in the BE.

It would be really helpful to click between an article, css file etc. At the moment I open one file edit, close, open another. close and keep going round in a cycle. Much of the time developing a site is taken up navigating, opening and closing files.

Even to be able to have multiple CSS files open at one time in multiple would be really helpful

Is there a solution/extension out there that I have overlooked?

    Gary,

I hear you. The tricky thing is if you try to open multiple browser windows, you end up messing up the session variables and when you submit you find yourself if a completely different place.

Have you ever seen or tried this?

I gave it a shot, and it wasn't for me, although it is pretty slick. It makes the BE behave more like a desktop app. I've been thinking about giving it another shot lately.

If you decide to try it, let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Brian

That's right -- I remember it being hidden.

Check personal data, user groups, or your user info for a checkbox or two.

EDIT -- Eh, I just tried installing it on 2.9.3. The checkboxes are in personal data, but I get an error message that I'm not an admin (even though I am). I can't get it to work.

So much for that one... :?

I see, it has to be enabled in "Personal Data".

But I get an error when saying:

"Sorry, Extendend Typolight can not be enabled. This extension is restricted for admin user,
Please contact your admin to enable it".

But I am an Admin user!!

I SWEAR I had that thing working at one time -- maybe 2.8ish.

The guy's Website is down too.

Do you create and edit your CSS files in Contao? You can also edit your css files outside of Contao and import them when finished (and then remove the hand written from your head section).

Hi Ruud, that we be a way around, but it's a bit clunky for me. I have around 22 css files per site as I like to split them out logically layout.css, main_nav.css, side_nav and lots for each extension. I find this easier I spend less time scrolling large files. Importing them once I've finished would be a pain.

    We need tabs :-)

I agree. I think that if Contao would change the way the go back links are handled using normal browser tabs is possible.

About editing the CSS files... I think using the Contao system to build css styles costs you an enormous amount of time. I know that I can build a css file with little trouble, no needs to scroll each style page to find the field for the border and so on. After I have imported the stylesheets it takes more time for each change I want to make then it would in a hand written file. Adding selectors, switching from one to the next, to the next, to the last, to the next, add a new one, quick fix in the footer, back to the original element; that also wouldn't work in tabs as fast as a normal file would.

Before using in-built contao CSS I used UltraEdit (still do for templates and other non css files), now I use the contao css source editor which allows you to edit like a a normal file, without the tabs of course.

Gary theres a pretty amazing looking extension called [extcontao] that rearranges the backend functionality completely.
Maybe it does what you want?

Aaah, I was looking for that one, I found it some time ago, but couldn't find it again. Never got it working on any installation, so must try again...

    Edit:
Got it working, need to get used to it, but I like it straight away. I might make this the default for users, but need to look at it more then 5 minutes first!
