Default Composer keeps deleting symlinks in web/files

    I'm running 4.4.35.

Updating the SW with composer always seems to delete the symlinks I have in web/files directory.

Maybe I'm setting it up wrong.... This is what I have:

    Directory: web/files
    Directory: files/dir1
    Directory: files/dir2

Inside web/files, there are symlinks to files/dir1 and files/dir2. Whenever I run composer, these symlinks disappear.

Easy enough to fix.... but the fact it keeps happening makes me think I have misunderstood how this should be set up.

Okay.... I think I may have figured it out myself.

It looks like one has to go into the file manager and mark directories as "Public". Otherwise, contao manager deletes any symlinks to them in web/files.

    Have I got that right?

Yes, you should not create any symlinks yourself (at least not for files or other system directories used by Contao). Contao will generate the symlinks for you (provided you have folders within files that are supposed to be public).

Ah Ha! It all makes sense now. This has been causing me no end of headaches since I upgraded to 4.4 (ex. running maintenance and suddenly the web pages are all "messed up").

Thanks for clarifying how it works.
