Contao-Manager kann Update nicht ausführen, Website anschließend mit 500er Fehler

Hallo,
ich habe ein Problem mit einem Update einer Contao 4.4.14-Version mit dem Contao-Manager (1.1.4). Nachdem er eine Weile "Updating packages" versucht hat, bricht er mit dieser Fehlermeldung ab:

Der Contao Manager konnte einen Konsolentask nicht starten!
Die Ausführung des Hintergrundtasks ist fehlgeschlagen.
Sollte dies nochmals passieren, unterstützt der Contao Manager Ihren Server ggf. nicht.

Nach dem Klick auf "Schließen" erhalte ich dann diese Fehlermeldung:

Ich habe hier im Forum schon geschaut, bin aber nicht so ganz aus den Antworten schlau geworden – was genau müsste ich tun, um den Fehler zu beheben? Die ganze Website ist auch "weg", also es wird im Netz nur ein Error 500 angezeigt.
