Customising News archive menu for yearly news display

A while ago, Leo implemented news archive display by year. This means that www.domain.com/archive?year=2009 now works in addition to www.domain.com/archive?month=200901.

Unfortunately, the module News archive menu does not give an option to output a year-only menu. It seems that I have to customise the mod_newsmenu.tpl file manually.

Until now, I could not get to grips with it. I was able to output years only, but don't know how to get the links working.... Would anyone be able to post the template that outputs something like:

 <li class="first">2010[*]2009
 <li class="last">2008[/list]

Think I've got it wrong: www.domain.com/archive?year=2009 doesn't work, but with 'Archive format' set to 'year', the whole year displays when linking to a specific month. Well, the needs is still there: A year-only menu... :?:

I am wondering about this too....

In the old forum there is a post in which is mentioned the yearly archive menu was going to be implemented.

I do not see how i can get the newsarchive menu to show only years instead of months.
Maybe I am overlooking something?
