Compatible hosting service providers

I was trying a very small site on some provider's host space -- checking first some of the ones giving a free trial, beyond the full bells and whistles plans.
On one of them, where I succeeded installing and viewing my pages (besides some quirks...) the plug-in manager was unable to run, telling I had to configure PHP with soap.

Now, I was wondering if anyone has compiled any list of TYPOlight-compatible providers... When one of them claims compatibility with other CMS, like Joomla or Wordpress, can be helpful in saying how compatibility goes?
Any other indicator to look for, beside asking each of 'em about TYPOlight?
Oh, and yes, I've already seen the partner's list on TL's site, but there are so many others around, and I'd like to read some opinions.

Since most German hosters don't offer their services to customers outside Europe I'd be interested in your experiences with ISPs with international billing.

Customers of mine had multiple sites hosted with Dreamhost, USA (http://www.dreamhost.com/). They are cheap but they don't support SOAP and offer very poor service.

So they moved their sites to QuadraHosting, Australia (http://www.quadrahosting.com.au/). Pricing is okay, support (ticketing system) is friendly with acceptable reaction times, and Typolight is running without any problems. Use of safe mode hack is recommended.
Cons: Backbones between Asia/Australia and USA/Europe turned out to be very slow, and Quadra has a rather mysterious way of calculating used disc space.

Contao running without any problems. Service is quick and friendly. Yet we've been experiencing several security issues and corruptions/hacking with a multiple domain package.

I've used a shared host from the USA, www.bluehost.com and they are cheap and a bit slow, although my sites are not heavy traffic at all (issues with shared hosting i suspect), but I've no complaints about their support which is mainly via chat.
I've had no technical issues with Contao installations and everything works perfectly.
