Default Applying CSS / The difference between TYPOlight and Contao

I'm a designer. Not so much a developer. I'm learning how to be both...and I'm really impressed with Contao's features. It's got everything I'm looking for...except an idiot's guide.

There are some pretty handy tutorials for TYPOlight...however, the same step-by-step help does not seem to be available for Contao, yet. So, maybe help can be found here

As I wasn't really able to start with a completely blank slate and was required to use the Music Academy template as a starting point, I've tried to learn what I can from the template and then start my own, blank slate. That being said, I'm not entirely certain how to 'apply' the CSS that I have made in the Contao CSS editor to the page I have thrown together. You can see the it here: http://www.viri-design.com/contao-2.9.0/

I think I've come to understand modules and layouts pretty well...I just cannot understand why my layout's CSS (that was built in Contao) is not showing up.

    Any suggestions?

in Themes click the icon for page layouts and than the editicon forthe pagelayout you have assigned to your pages.
there is an option where you can click the check boxes for the css files. So is there the basic.css checked to be included?

Checked the source code and i guess the basic.css is missing, so means not included in your page layout.

omigosh...now, I totally -do- feel like a dummy.

Thanks SO much. That fixed my issue. I think I'll be able to figure it out from this point on. If not, I know where to ask :D
