Does anyone else find the search mechanism in the Contao website Extension List http://www.contao.org/extension-list.html a difficult, erratic, unreliable, unenjoyable and unintuitive experience????

Yeah, it can be designed much much better. There are plenty of redundant info out there like Type, License, Popularity, Rating or Category.
I think it would help if there was one search field and the ajax was removed (if its ajax).
What happens is that selecting the version compatibility clears the searches, then you reenter a search term, and the compatibility goes back to 2.9.
Very frustrating IMHO.
I agree that it can be frustrating at times to find a particular extension, especially when you haven't fully figured out how the right column search, sort, filter works. The "Compatibility = 2.9" dropdown is a bit limiting, especially since something from 2.8 will most likely work in 2.9.

I think the easiest / best improvement to the online (http://www.contao.org/extension-list.html) ER is to make "Compatibility" default to "any version".
I don't think it's erratic or unreliable, because the same search results can be achieved repeatedly. I agree that it can sometimes be difficult to find what you're looking for though. But, it's not necessarily the ER's fault ...Originally Posted by ramjet

Search results could be improved if there was better tagging, short descriptions and long descriptions by the authors of each extension.
Losing the compatibility setting on certain links is a known bug.
Moving the compatibility switch to the top seems also a good idea.
