    Default IE9 Soon - when can I ditch IE7?

So with IE 9 around the corner, how many years do you think it will take to not have to code in IE7 fixes? (or will IE9 have it's own bag of tricks?)

As IE7 never really stuck around, you might be able to ignore it completely. IE7 upgraders updated to IE8 very fast (for the most part, according to my stats).

According to w3schools, IE7 is somewhere near IE6 in usage (http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_explorer.asp).

    Other statistics: http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser_vers ... 908-201008 and http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php

Statcounter let's you easily see the stats for a specific region or country. Thus you can decide per project and target audience whether you have to support a particular browser version (though there are other criteria, e. g. your target audience are enterprises).

I have a strict policy ONLY to support 2 Browsers for IE. The day that thing is release, I drop support for it IMMEDIATELY -- OMG, hours spent to get a f..king piece of software to just comply to standards that ALL the other browsers can do....

..and also with no XP version of IE9... that's a large audience still on IE7 or 8

As IE7 is not as bad as IE6, dropping support for IE7 won't make a site completely unusable, it'll just look different. I actually do have a site I built about a year ago which cannot be used in IE6 (#main isn't rendered at all ^^), but it works in IE7 with only minor differences to IE8 or the modern browsers.

Try making #main a few pixels narrower than it actually should be by declaring the width in css. It will probably render properly.

IE9 already there, it tempted me to install and see what really it has. To my disappointment,I see all my previous sites javascript breaks. There is some complications in Mootools < 1.2.5 when its playing in IE9. Most prominently my Slimboxs are broken, Is yours Slimboxs working?

Haha, shout, shout, let it all out...

Luckily the other browsers are not nearly perfect either!

IE9's Developer tools makes creating IE7 css fixes much more tolerable.
