Adding download as a product type

To create a product to sell like a pdf is this how you would go about doing it?

Go to file manager
create a folder called 'downloads'
lock this folder
Upload file to be doanloaded to this folder

Select store configuration
Select to product types
Add new product type, call it 'download'
Select relevant options for price, teaser, description etc
Enable downloads as an option at the bottom of the page
Save

Select product management
Create new product
Select product type 'download'
Fill in usual details
Save and close

Still in product management select the wand next to the prodcut you have just added and select 'download'
Select add download
Fill in details and select file from file manager
Save and close
If you have multiple files add another download
Save and close

What are the options to recieve the file?

can it be downloaded straight way? will this be an automatic broweser download? will a client have to login and download it from thier account? can they be emailed a link to download the file?

For users to get the files they have bought:

Set up a module for order history
Set up a module for order details
Add these to pages on the site that are restricted to users who are logged in

Once the order is complete for someone to get the files they have bought they will need to go to order history and view the oder details, here there will be a link allowing them to click and download the file/s. these will be availiable once the order has been set to complete. best to set the default status for these products to be complete so user can get instant access to the files

For selling downloadable products you will need the person to register for an account. I don't see a way of doing it so the customer can get the files without loggin in to thier members account order history section.

Now looking to see if i can find a way to add link to download files to order complete email...
