incomplete TRLs

Hello,

I am new to this forum, and I have a question. I recently inherited the development of a websiteand there is a problem with the URLs. To give a made up example using English characters, when the URL should be:

mysite.org/page/subpage.html

is comes up:

mysite.org/subpage.html

This happens everywhere in the site and I don't know how to change it.

There does say in settings:

Rewrite URL
With this option you can make TYPOlight generate static URLs without "index.php" (e.g. alias.html instead of index.php/alias.html). This feature requires the Apache module mod_rewrite!

But I can't untick the box, and I dont know if the Apache module mod_rewrite is added. Maybe it would be a start to add it, only I don't know how.

Hi, buddhayana.ru/going-forth.html is the standard behaviour of Contao (as in - you are already url re-writing, if you weren't the url would be buddhayana.ru/index.php/going-forth.html).
To achieve what you want I believe you need to install and configure a module called "folderurl" (although I have never used this ... more info here

OR your whole Contao installation would need to be in a folder buddhayana.ru/buddha/ rather than in buddhayana.ru/ (and you would need to set in your RewriteBase in your htaccess file to /buddha.

Only when I tried to install it I got the following error message:

What version of Contao is your install?
You might need to run the system check tool for that version to check that all your file/folder permissions are ok.
It sounds like your system/tmp folder isn't writable. The tool will tell you what permissions are required.

And following your link, the earliest version to find what permissions are required is for 2.6.8.0

yes, try that one and see... part of what it does is attempt to write a file to see if your system is writable.
Folderurl is compatable with that Contao version according to its specs

All I get is a large amount of text and codes that's pretty incomprehensible.

But the instructions did say:

"Simply upload the file to the Contao root folder, open it in a web browser"

and sorry to say I am not sure where the Contao root folder is.

thats the root where you put it :D , i had a look.
Effectively its saying your hosting setup won't allow writing to the server unless you use what is called "Safe Mode Hack" (do a search on this).
You also have folders of the wrong chmod setting, and missing files.

Effectively any script that needs to write information can't - including the Extension Repository i think.
You could try manually installing Folderurl, but it may need to write stuff - i don't know.

Really you need to try safe mode hack, i've never had need of it so I can't advise sorry.
You've got a bit of a learning curve ahead really if you want to change anything.

Infact, a friend installed the folderurl this time manually (downloaded the zip-file from contao, copied it in typolight modules, went through other typolight extension installation steps) and it is sitting in "extension manager" without the 2 error messages that were there, but isn't visible in "extension catalogue". And now when I try to re-instal it, I am asked for a "license key" (which is progress) but I don't have one .

I have read about Safe Mode Hacks but haven't 'mastered' them yet. My friend had installed other extensions but got stuck with this one too. He is busy with other work at present and can't devote much time to this.

I think working on the correct chmod settings and missing files is a good next step.

Infact, "folerurl" is in there in "extension catalogue", my friend manager to get it in, but the page alias:

heading/page

is still gets an error message.

go to the yourdomain/typolight/install.php page, log in and check to see if the database reports as "up to date".
Update it via the button there if it isn't.
This needs to be done for any manual install.

Also I think folderurl must be configured...???

gave me an error message

So folderurl shows up in the extension manager? It should be good then.


Heres what it says to do....

You cannot see this module in backend or frontend. You will have to manually adjust the alias of every page to what you desire. Do NOT add a leading or trailing slash. The alias should be “company/team” for example

Are all your page aliases buddha/alias? (Site Structure:: edit:: page alias)

If only life was that simple , changing the "page alias" brings up the following error message:

Please enter a valid URL format and encode special characters!

for an entry like:

They are always regular pages.

As far as I understand, there will be some settings for folderurl in System::Settings that you may need to set/adjust.
Check to see.

I don't know sorry, i've never used this extension.

I think that until you can get your installation fixed (by safe mode hack, or a new host) you're going to have troubles with everything you try to do.
If you do change systems - maybe even updating to a later contao version, although make sure you back up both the files and the database first.
