    Default loading.gif is corrupt

    Hi,

On every installation of Contao I have made (10+), the spinning loading icon shows graphical errors. (See attached image) The error is visible regardles of computer being used. With that in mind, the gif-file must be corrupt.

I tried to open the image (loading.gif) in Photoshop. There I found that the layers and animation were incomplete. I adjusted the animation, and resaved it into a new file. And now it works flawlessly.

I filed a bug-report on this, but it was rejected because Leo couldn't reproduce the issue. I find that very strange because I see the error on every Contao installation and regardless of computer being used.

So my question is, does anyone of you have problem with this image-file? See the attached image how the graphical errors looks like.

Did som more tests on a brand new mac. Firefox, Chrome, Opera seems to view the file ok. But the latest Safari (5.0.3) shows graphic errors.

I did the test by downloading the latest Contao package and unzipped it. Then dragged the loading.gif file (system/themes/default/images/) to Safari to view it directly in the browser.

One interesting thing is that if you press the reload button in the browser to reload the file, the graphic error seems random. Sometimes it shows ok, but most often it gets random graphic errors.

i've never seen this, but try purging Contao both in Maintainance, (html and tmp directories) and in Personal Data (purge all) .... and your browser cache too before checking (don't be on a page with the gif when you do, and close the browser before rechecking)
May help if your system corrupted then cached the gif.

I cannot reproduce the error. What steps are required? Neither Safari on Windows nor Mac showed a weird loading gif.

Nope, doesn't seem odd in any way. Then again, you do have the problem, so the file is probably not 100% correct. Can't Ola email the corrected file to Leo, who can decide to use it or not. If it doesn't mess up for the other ones, then there doesn't seem to be a reason not to use it...

To recreate the issue, do the following:
    1. Download the latest Contao package as zip.
    2. Unzip the file
    3. Open system/themes/default/images/loading.gif in Safari (Version 5.0.3 on Mac)
    4. Try to reload the browser a few times and see how the graphical errors are random (Sometimes the file actually renders fine, but more often errors are shown.)

I did this today on a brand new Mac (1 day old) and the issue is there. In Firefox, Chrome and Opera the image is shown ok. So it seems that only Safari has problems with this file.

To solve the problem I just opened the file in Photoshop and resaved it.

I'm on CS3, opening an animated gif and resaving takes out the animation.

I think CS3 has the possibility to save an animated gif. Just make sure you use "Save for web..." and that the animation is enabled there.
