Default upgrade from 2.9.3 to 2.9.4 question

    Dears,

I have a question regarding my website which is currently live/online...
It's made in CONTAO 2.9.3 and now the update is available to 2.9.4

If I would update the complete website to 2.9.4 through the CONTAO Backend,
do I risk to corrupt my webiste, to loose data and stuff ?
As I'm new here, I was just wondering if I can just upgrade it like that...Or is testing really required ?

    Thanks a lot !

    Q -

Whenever you do something like that, I think the consensus would be back your stuff up anyway (files and database).

But yes, in theory if you do a "Live Update" all of your "update safe" stuff should be OK-- templates, site assets, custom modules, and anything you did in the configuration files (/system/config/). And the database may be updated, but shouldn't touch anything you've created previously.

Obviously if you do a manual update (i.e. uploading the files yo-self), those files will get overwritten if you aren't careful.

I've used the Live Update service (paid, but not expensive) on several sites over two years plus .. never a problem, its always been seamless.
It also saves heaps of time compared with manual update, backs up for you and supports Leos development of Contao.

Actually I just checked the zip it produces in the root folder (i've never needed too before).
Its NOT a full site backup - as in it does NOT backup tl_files or make an sql dump of the database, or backup installed modules etc.

I believe its used to roll back the update if necessary. Don't rely on it as a backup system.
I believe theres a couple of good backup modules in the repository.
    Sorry about that.

There's a pretty new extension "FullBackup" in the repository which creates backups of the database and all files under the website root. Triggered by Contao Poor-Man's Cron.

actually it's triggered by the hook 'generatePage', but the rest is correct ;-)
