Default Display hierarchy in Front-end Filter

    Hello everybody,

Hopefully this hasn't already been answered - I searched but couldn't find seem to figure out if this is possible or not.

Let's say I have a catalog with the taxonomy set up like so:

    • Category 1
      [list:116hex04]-Item one
      -Item two

    Category 2
    • Subcategory 1
      [list:116hex04]-Item three
      -Item four
    [/list:u:116hex04]
    • -Item five
    [/list:u:116hex04]

Currently, the menu for the filter on the front-end only displays only the actual items, and not which category they are under. For example, the drop down menu would currently list the following choices:

    Item one
    Item two
    Item three
    Item four
    Item five

Is it possible for the menu to list categories as well? For instance, so that users could "zero in" on what they're looking for by first selecting "category 2" (which would return items 3-5) and then refine their search by selecting "subcategory 1" (which would only display items 3 and 4).

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Thankfully I was able to get this figured out, thanks for your response. The catalog can take a little bit of time to understand at the beginning, but becomes more logical once you use it more. This post by valentin really helped me out. Cheers!
