Default blob vs text for serialized fields

Is there any reason why Leo uses blob rather than text as a type for fields that store serialized data (multiSRC, groups etc).
Or rather, is there a reason I shouldn't use text?

AFAIK the only difference between TEXT and BLOB is about the charset. In BLOB field data is stored as binary.
