Trying to install and have missing localconfig file

Background:
- have PC which is running Ubunutu 12.04
- I have apache 2.2.22 & PHP 5.3.10 installed

I just downloaded the latest file (from today) as a tar. I have untar-ed it into the var/www directory

Now when I run localhost/contao/install.php

I get the first screen. That tells me php + apache are working fine.

My questions are:
- as I am doing this on a PC I thought that my FTP location would be 127.0.0.1. - But it says no.
- all the information that I read points me to a localconfig.php file. I have looked everywhere and I cannot find one. I looked in the TAR I downloaded and there is also none?

Anyone done a simple local install on a PC?

Solved - well kind of.

What I did is:
- installed vsftp on my machine to allow ftp. http://www.jonathanmoeller.com/screed/?p=3615
- then I did a CHMOD 999 on the directory where Contao is.
- then re-ran the install

What also helped is to run the contao_check.php file. That helped narrow down what I need to do.

I have an install that appears to work so far HOWEVER no localconfig file in sight. So not sure how to safe-mode hack or if it is still required.

Sounds like you still haven't got your server setup correctly.

The file 'localconfig.php' will appear in 'system/config/localconfig.php' after you've setup the installation password to install.php.

Since contao 2.11, there is no longer a localconfig file in the download archive. Contao create this file during installation and is only ready after finishing the complete installation.

Don't wonder that you can not found the file at your server
