Cannot use www.domain.com

Hello,

I have installed Conto 3.0.0 on my server. I can access my website att www.domain.com but not domain.com.
When I use domain.com (without www) I either get to a blank white page or I get this error:

The requested URL /contao/ was not found on this server.

I have checked that the domain DNS data seems correct. Is there anything I can do other than reinstalling?
I used www.domain.com when I installed Contao, can that have something to do with it?

I think it has something to with the .htaccess file in the root folder.
What I am doing everytime: I take the .htaccess.default file and I rename it in .htaccess

I can come up with three solutions

Do not set domain name
I usually do not set the Domain name (in root page settings) for a single site installation. Then both with and without www will work.

Redirect www
You could redirect the www to prevent Google from indexing duplicate content. This will also fix your problem. Edit the .htaccess file, instructions are inside the file itself.

Second rootpage
For multi site installations you could also add a second rootpage that covers http://www.domain.com and has 1 subpage that is an external redirect to the http://domain.com site.
