Updating from TypoLight 2.5

Hi,

I have a very old install of TypoLight 2.5 and I apparently would like to get it updated.
What I tried so far:
- manual update to Contao 2.11.11. That seemed to work, but it says the database needs to do a "Version 2.8 update". I click the button to do that and then it says:

Uncaught exception Exception with message Query error: Unknown column 'protected' in 'where clause' (UPDATE tl_module SET groups='a:0:{}' WHERE protected=1 AND groups='') thrown in …/system/libraries/Database.php on line 686

So I tried to update in smaller steps which didn't work either. The install-script of version 2.6 didn't do mysql updates. I had to do them manually which seemed to work, but afterwards the website was broken.

What is the correct working procedure for that?

Hm, this is quite a leap from TYPOlight 2.5 to a modern Contao version.
I'd also try doing it in small steps.

What exactly happend, when you updated from TYPOlight 2.5 to 2.6? Did you get a warning or anything?
