Event list - get all events

Hi. I would like to create a calendar module with events inside and below the calendar I would like to show the next event. I've tried with a normal calendar module with a custom template file, but I don't know how to get the next event. Then I've tried to get all events and implement a jquery datepicker calendar, and show there the events, but again I don't know how to fetch all events (past and upcoming). Could somebody give me some tipps, I just started to develop in Contao, and don't really have too much ideas Thank you.

Put an event list modul below the calendar. Limit this list to 1 item. Then it should show only one event which is the next one.
