Failing Datenbank Backup

After some time I intended to update an Contao-Website version 4.4.13. First of all I wanted to start with an backup by using the function 'Download MySQL-Backup' of the extension 'Datenbank Backup'. This failed, there only appears a page with a white browser window - no error message or any other comments.
Quite a bit astonishing, that even an backup procedere failed - are there any workarounds?

Please see in your var/logs/error.log file if there are any relevant log entries regarding your database backup job.

Depending on the size of your MySQL database the backup job may stop unexpectedly due to server power limitations (memory_limit, max_execution_time).

For a full backup of your database, please use phpMyAdmin or any other database management tool of your hoster!
