Default Googlebot doesn't find 2.9.1 index file

I've just updated to 2.9.1 for a site, and found that the googlebot returns a 404 page not found for the index of my site. The odd thing is, when I test the other pages in my site, it finds all of them just fine. I even tried different variations of the same page to see what a googlebot would return:

    http://www.mysite.com = 404 not found with googlebot
    http://www.mysite.com/index.php = 404 not found with googlebot
    http://www.mysite.com/home = success, no problems

I don't know what is causing the googlebot to return the error on the root site. I didn't have this issue with 2.8.3, so I am wondering if it's an .htaccess issue or something else within the index.php file itself that would cause this to happen with the new install? This is a big problem for my site not being indexed by google.

    Hi tad42,

have you enabled in your "Site structure" the option "Language fallback" for the "Website root"?
Further, all "Regular pages" have to be in the starting point "Website root"!
