Guide to creating a payment gateway

Hi.

Is there somekind of a guide on how to create a new payment gateway, or do I have to try to make it based on the existing ones and looking at the source code?

I'm currently making a few sites using Contao and Isotope. As soon as I get these finished I will probably start making modules for Contao... and maybe perhaps something to Isotope as well, but at the moment I donät really have the sparetime for that.
