Default Contao and MySQL server has gone away

My client have sharing hosting where DB is very slow. From hosting support I received that I have to add to my script (means Contao) this:

!!Sorry I have to use spaces in this code becouse without spaces after Submit this post - forum crashed. I tried few times !!
    Code:
    my sql _ qu ery ( ' SET S ES SION wait _ tim eout = 60 ', $ con nection )
Is it possible add this piece of code into Contao core files at all? It make any sesne from Contao point of view? Of course I know it's mostly hosting issue.
Is it possible to check how many MySQL requests my installation make when page is loaded? To show that is no Contao issue.
